Court Affirms Bassey Otu As APC Gov Candidate In Cross River

Sen. Bassey Otu, a former Cross River State senator who represented the Southern Senatorial District, has been confirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s standard bearer in Cross River State for the 2023 general elections.
According to Akahi News, Otu’s candidacy was decided by the Federal High Court in Calabar on Monday, October 24, 2022.
Owan Enoh, an APC governorship aspirant in the state, had previously approached the court in an effort to disqualify Otu as the party’s governorship candidate for the upcoming 2023 general elections. Today, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu presided over the sitting of the court and ruled out the suit.
You may recall that the party’s governorship primary in May 2022 saw Otu emerge victorious.
“A candidate contesting for the governorship position must be a Nigerian, meet the stipulated age requirement, and have basic qualifications according to the constitution,” Justice Ojukwu stated in her ruling today.
She stated that a political party’s decision regarding its governorship candidate is and always will be its responsibility.
As the Cross River APC gears up for the 2023 campaigns, Akahi News understands that the court decision has put to rest months of speculation and division.
