What FG Says Concerning Second Niger Bridge Project And Launch Will Shock You

The second Niger-bridge project will be ready for launch by the first quarter of 2024, according to the federal government’s announcement.
According to Latest Gist, the acting federal controller of works in Anambra State, Seyi Martins, made the disclosure on Saturday.
Keep in mind that in November 2016, the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, through the minister of power, works, and housing, Babatunde Fashola, awarded Julius Berger Construction Company a sum of N206 billion for the completion of the 2nd Niger Bridge.
The project’s official commissioning date was previously disclosed by the government in December 2022.The second phase of work—a 3.3-kilometer road approach on the Delta side and a 7-kilometer road approach on the Anambra side—had not yet begun, but it was noted that the bridge would be accessible by 2024.
According to the most recent Gist, Martins disclosed this over the weekend while hosting members of the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria on the bridge.
The official claims that the facility’s construction has advanced to 95% completion. He stated that the final asphalt surfacing on the carriageway lane heading toward Asaba was all that remained after the first phase of the project had been substantially completed.
He claims that the bridge, which would run parallel to the existing bridge for approximately 1.7 kilometers, would be a dual carriageway with three lanes on each side and approximately 1.6 kilometers in length, making the project’s total length 11.9 kilometers.
The steel guard rails had also been completed, the roads were ready for vehicle traffic, and the toll plaza area was almost finished, according to the acting controller.
He stated, “The bridge project is 95% complete and is expected to be commissioned by the end of December 2022. However, there is a second phase that is yet to begin, which is a 3.3 km road approach on the Delta side and a 7 km approach road on the Anambra side.”
The bridge can be reached from the Onitsha-Owerri road interchange at Oba. In the meantime, a road is being built to connect traffic on the Asaba-Benin Expressway until the second phase is finished.
The second phase of the project has not yet begun, but the government has decided that it should be open to traffic once the first phase is finished.
“At the Onitsha end, there is an interchange at Oba from which you can get to the bridge, and at the Asaba end, we are building a link road to make it possible for travelers to get to the bridge from the Benin-Onitsha road,” the statement reads.
