In the southeast, gunmen kill in cover of Biafra agitation—the army
According to a military official, the influence of drugs is contributing to the country’s rising crime rate. Gunmen hide under Biafra agitation to kill in the southeast.

According to the Nigerian army, the gunmen who are terrorizing South-East residents hide behind Biafra agitation in order to commit crimes in the region.
This was stated by Umar Musa, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu, during his visit to Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State on Friday at the Government House in Awka.
Christian Aburime, the governor’s spokesperson, made this clear in a statement.
Mr. Musa, a major general, succeeded Taoreed Lagbaja, also a major general, as the General Officer in Charge (GOC) of the 1 Mechanized Division in Kaduna.
The governor was informed by the newly appointed 82 Division GOC, whose division is in charge of Mr. Soludo’s Anambra, of his appointment.
Mr. Musa has also recently paid governors of Abia and Imo States, Hope Uzodinma and Okezie Ikpeazu, visits.
The GOC will collaborate with the security division’s state governors in the Southeast. This explains his recent meetings with regional governors.
He thanked Mr. Soludo for supporting the state’s security agencies in their fight against gunmen.
The GOC stated that the army was aware of the security situation in the Southeast and pledged to collaborate with the governor and other governors in the region to combat it.
We are deeply concerned by the volatile states of Anambra and Imo that we have discovered.Mr. Musa stated, “People capitalize on the issue of agitation in Biafra to commit crime.”
Mr. Musa stated that during his two months in the division, he studied the Southeast’s insecurity in order to devise strategies for addressing it.
Attacks present new difficulties. He continued, “I assure you of the Nigerian army’s total commitment.”
According to the GOC, drug abuse was a major factor in the country’s crime rate.
