Mr. Abimaje Shittu, a 25-year-old native of Egume, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, was arrested by Kogi State Polytechnic security personnel for posing as an Inspector of Police and possessing a false identification card.
Omale Oredo, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, stated in a statement that Shittu was apprehended by Polytechnic security on October 15, 2022, while attempting to reach the Polytechnic Main Campus in Lokoja.
Shittu, who claimed to be a graduate of the National Diploma in Accountancy and had a Matriculation Number 2016/ND/ACCT/188, said that his fake identification card with the number “219264” and the name Abdullahi Saduki was given to him by his late brother, Ekele Ahiaba, who was from Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area.
He asserted that the aforementioned Ekele Ahiaba was a police officer who died in Port Harcourt.
The offender also admitted that he has been using the fake ID card for months with the intention of making it easy for him to get past security checkpoints in the Lokoja metropolis as a Keke NAPEP operator.
He also admitted that he was using it to avoid being harassed in public.
The offender went on to say that he had come to the school to do business with Mr. Idris Usman, who he claimed owned a Point of Sales location and made shoes at the Student Centre.
The appropriate security agency has been given Mr. Abimaje Shittu for further investigation.
