NYSC Allowance Increase Proposal

During the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of NYSC in Abuja, Minister Dare announced that a proposal for a revised allowance for serving members of the NYSC was before President Muhammadu Buhari for approval. This increase in allowance is a significant step forward in ensuring the welfare of youth corps members, as it has already been raised from N19,000 to N33,000, surpassing the minimum wage.
Expanding Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programs:
In addition to the proposed allowance increase, the NYSC is considering extending the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program throughout the entire service year. This expansion aims to provide youth corps members with comprehensive training and support, enabling them to acquire essential skills for their future careers and contribute positively to the Nigerian economy.
Recommendations for NYSC Reforms and Improvements:
Minister Dare also highlighted that the committee would make recommendations on reforms and improvements for the overall functioning of the NYSC scheme. This includes proposals to enhance uniforms and increase various allowances for corps members. If approved, these changes could significantly improve the experience and welfare of youth corps members during their service year.
