Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has attempted to resolve the ongoing conflict with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike by making new moves.
According to reports, the pair’s meeting on Thursday to find a solution to the crisis failed due to Wike’s insistence that the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, be fired or resign.
Atiku was reportedly told by Wike on Thursday at his private residence in Asokoro, Abuja, that Ayu must resign in order for peace efforts to begin.
Former Senator Olaka Wogu, one of Wike’s close allies, told The Punch that the Rivers Governor reiterated his demand to the former vice president that Ayu must leave, and that Wike stood firm on his demands.
Wogu stated, “I just want to set the record straight that regardless of what you have heard, the meeting ended because Wike stood firm that there was no basis for any resolution until Ayu stepped down.” This was in response to what Wike had stated.
“After the necessary has been done, everything else can be discussed, whether it is 2027 or not.As a result, the party will be able to send the national chairman to every state to promote the party. There are a few nations where Ayu might not be accepted.
2027 Presidency Wogu stressed that there was no such discussion at the Thursday meeting and denied reports that Atiku offered to support Wike for president in 2027.
“There is nothing like that,” he stated.I informed you that they are still having conversations.I won’t lie to you, but I can’t tell you what the meeting was about; The goal is to see if they can come to an agreement.
“As you are aware, Wike has maintained his position that Ayu must leave for reasons of fairness, equity, and justice. He ought to go.Even more so was the fact that Ayu himself had stated that he would go.Therefore, out of respect, he ought to leave.
“Before this point, Atiku had stated that his (Ayu’s) removal was subject to constitutional challenges. Therefore, we will investigate the choice between force and pleasure. In London, Atiku stated that.Similar to a follow-up, thisThey are conversing.
