Police officer sentenced to 10 years in prison for opening fire on wedding guests

A former police officer was given a ten-year prison term by the Ado-Ekiti branch of the Ekiti High Court for the murder of a wedding guest.


According to Akahi News, the suspect, Tizhe Goji, was arrested on July 29, 2021, and charged with one count of manslaughter.
After concluding that the prosecutor had demonstrated his case beyond a reasonable doubt, the presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Familoni, sentenced and convicted the accused.
At the Queens Court Hotel in Ekiti, the defendant reportedly opened fire on the deceased Abayomi Olaoye.
The charge begins with:that the convict killed Abayomi Olaoye on November 21, 2021, at the Queens Court Hotel in Ado Ekiti under the jurisdiction of this honorable court, in violation of Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”
“I came with other members of our family, including the deceased for a wedding ceremony at Ise Ekiti, we lodged at Queens Court Hotel, Ado Ekiti,” Bukola Omorinkoba, an eyewitness, told the police.
“Around 9:00 p.m., while we were unwinding at the hotel reception, we saw the defendant and other police officers driving in a Toyota Hilux Van. As soon as the door was opened, he opened fire on us. The bullet struck Adebayo Ilori and the deceased, and they were rushed to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti. The defendant told Chris Omokhafe, his attorney, his side of the story, that he shot the gun by accident.
He stated, “I used the rifle to stop a robbery the day before, but I forgot to show and close the rifle’s chamber.”I was celebrating my promotion with my coworkers at the Queen’s Court Hotel.The rifle accidentally went off when the door of the vehicle was opened.I didn’t do it with any intention.
