Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is the first Nigerian to win the BMI Impact Award in London. Tems is a singer and songwriter from Nigeria.
The singer was praised for her groundbreaking talent, original ideas, and influence on music’s future.To top it all off, BMILondon praised Tems and expressed an interest in learning about her next accomplishment.
Akahi News recalls Tems opened up on her life before fame and how she had to steal food to survive.
According to Tems, life was not easy for her and her mom as they passed through difficult times, one of which was when her mother was attacked by someone who broke into their house and held her at knife point. And at a point in their tough life, she quit her job and took permission from her mother to venture into music which totally changed their lives.
Speaking further Tems said she will be dedicating one of her hit tracks, ‘Mr Rebel’ to her mother, being her inspiration.
