During a negotiation meeting facilitated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Minister of Labor and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, and the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, got into a heated argument.
According to Akahi News, all parties involved were properly represented at the meeting called to resolve the ongoing ASUU strike, which has kept Nigeria’s public university students at home since February 14.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, and other stakeholders offered a variety of suggestions for resolving the ongoing crisis.
Dr. Habiba Lawal, a aide to the president, was requested by the SGF to be its representative at subsequent meetings.
Ben Akabueze, Director-General of the Budget Office, OkolieAboh Sylva, Accountant-General of the Federation, and Abdullahi Usman, Director Infrastructure of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), were among the other stakeholders who presented at the meeting. All of these individuals opposed the use of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a payment platform by ASUU in favor of the IPPIS (Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System).
The Storm, on the other hand, Ngige said that the ASUU president had said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government had kept children at home and that Nigerians should vote them out as the reason for the meeting.
The ASUU camp and other attendees of the meeting, on the other hand, refuted the Minister’s accusation.
The accusation also enraged the ASUU leadership, resulting in a rowdy meeting in which Prof. Osodeke referred to Ngige as a liar who enjoys misleading the public.
However, despite the fact that the two of them continued to exchange vehement words, the Minister left the meeting.
