Teens arrested for the robbery attempt and Facebook Marketplace scam

A group of teenagers are being held on suspicion of allegedly setting up a trap to rob people who wanted to sell household goods.
According to Western Cape police, the teens used Facebook Marketplace as bait.Ndakhe Gwala, the spokesperson, stated that six teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 were arrested on Wednesday by the Nyanga crime-prevention unit.
The victim was in Brown’s Farm delivering a system that he had ordered from Facebook Marketplace when he was approached by six men who stoned his vehicle in an attempt to rob him.
The suspects were detained and their cell phones confiscated by police officers who witnessed the ordeal.
The victim had been enticed to the location by the suspects, who claimed to be potential customers.
Gwala stated that the suspects’ cellphones contained 15 additional conversations with potential victims.
