The 8-Month-Old Strike Is Conditionally Suspended by ASUU

A member of the National Executive Committee of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) informed Channels TV early on Friday that the union’s eight-month-old industrial action has been conditionally suspended.

During a meeting of the union’s leadership that began late on Thursday and continued into the early hours of Friday, the union decided to put the strike on hold.
After the union’s state branches met last week to discuss the Court of Appeal decision, the meeting was called to determine the union’s next course of action.
Before the ASUU’s appeal of the ruling requiring lecturers to resume work could be heard, the Court of Appeal had ordered the strike to be put on hold.
The meeting was held at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja and was attended by members of the union’s National Executive Committee, which includes members of the national executive and chairmen of the state chapters.
Since February 14 of this year, the ASUU has been on strike.
