Fiifi Kwetey, a candidate for General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserts that there is no doubt that his rivals will prevail in the elections.
According to him, the fact that these individuals have been at the forefront of political activities over the past four years is the source of Mr. Kwetey’s conviction.
As party stalwarts continue to declare their interest in the December 17, 2022 election, the race for the position is getting hotter.
Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, the Deputy Secretary in charge, has declared his intention to run for the position.
Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Director of Elections, also believes he is the best option due to the experience he has gained from various portfolios over the years.
However, in an interview with Ekosii Sen of Asempa FM, the former Ketu South Member of Parliament who will resign in 2020 stated that he is unfazed by these people’s popularity.
He claimed that the reason for this is that, over the course of his career, he has also managed party affairs and carried out a significant amount of background research, both of which make him suitable for the position.
“The fact that you have served in the last four years does not mean that you will be a great secretary. There is no doubt that my contenders have an advantage because they have been at the forefront of things.
“I believe I have an impeccable track record because I came from nowhere and became propaganda secretary years ago, and Asiedu Nketia also overthrew an acting General Secretary.Even in governance, I have ministerial, party, and MP experience, all of which count for such positions because people feel more at ease knowing you are one of them,” he declared.
Mr. Kwetey said that the 2024 election is important because it will focus more on economic issues.
Because of this, he believes that as a former Deputy Finance Minister and advocate for the policies and course of the NDC’s flagbearer and running mate, he is in a better position to succeed Mr. Nketia.
