According to the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which were released on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, the University of Lagos is ranked first among Nigerian universities and 401-500th out of over 1,799 institutions worldwide.

The University of Ibadan, which is also ranked 401-500th worldwide, is tied for first place with UNILAG.
The Times Higher Education website published data indicating that the rankings were based on 13 calibrated performance indicators that evaluate an institution’s performance in four areas:teaching, research, disseminating knowledge, and an international perspective
UNILAG was ranked 801-1000 worldwide in 2020, 601-800 in 2021, and 501-600 in 2022.
The institution’s growth has been steadily increasing since 2020, according to the most recent rankings.
“The University of Lagos has indeed come a long way from the rankings of previous years, steadily rising from 2020 until date,” reads a statement that was posted on the university’s website.In 2020, UNILAG moved up from the 801–1000 range to the 601–800 range in 2021, the 501–600 range in 2022, and the 401–500 range in 2023.However, because the university’s goal is to be ranked among the world’s top ten universities, it is continuing to put in a lot of effort and dedication.
“This year, Covenant University comes in second in the 601–800 range, while the University (UNILAG) shares the first place spot in Nigeria with the University of Ibadan.Outside of Nigeria, UNILAG and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, USA, share the 401-500 range;UK’s Aston University;Germany’s Bayreuth University;London’s Brunel University;Among others, there is Colorado State University in Fort Collins, USA.
The Federal University of Technology in Akure and Bayero University in Kano, both of which share the 1001-1200th position in the 2023 World University Rankings, are two additional Nigerian institutions included in the rankings.
