What Peter Obi Said About Awkuzu SARS Killings

Published

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has denied that he was aware that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) had killed innocent citizens in Awkuzu, Anambra State, while he was governor of the state.
According to Akahi News, some of the LP Presidency candidate’s detractors blamed him for the murders and torture committed by the now-defunct police force in the South East state.
On Monday, while appearing on a program on Arise News, Obi stated that the police department was already present in the state prior to his appointment as governor, and that he did not have any control over how it operated during his tenure.
He claimed that the Federal Government, not the state governments, were in charge of Awkuzu SARS’s activities.
The Awkuzu SARS existed prior to my appointment as governor. The Federal Government used to have control over this police unit.It was as if I wasn’t the police when someone said I told people to arrest him;He stated, “I was the Governor.”
