Dubai Airport Flooded After Cloud Seeding Triggers Excess Rainfall (Video)
Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest, experienced significant disruptions on Tuesday after heavy rains caused by cloud seeding efforts flooded parts of the facility.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) deployed cloud seeding planes to induce rainfall in the region. However, the resulting downpour proved to be more intense than anticipated, leading to flooding on access roads and within the airport itself. Videos circulating online show passengers wading through ankle-deep water in the terminal.
Dubai Airports Authority confirmed the cancellation of nine outbound and eight inbound flights on Tuesday morning. Additionally, three flights were diverted to nearby airports due to the adverse weather conditions.
The NCM forecasts continued heavy rain with potential thunderstorms and lightning, particularly impacting coastal areas in the north and east of the United Arab Emirates. This unsettled weather is expected to persist into Wednesday morning, potentially causing further travel disruptions.
While cloud seeding technology aims to increase rainfall in arid regions, this incident highlights the potential for unintended consequences. Airport officials are working diligently to address the situation and minimize inconvenience for passengers.
