Mason Greenwood Announces Intent to Forge New Football Path Away from Manchester United

On Monday, Manchester United’s forward, Mason Greenwood, revealed his intention to pursue his football career outside of Old Trafford.

Greenwood shared that this decision was reached through a collaborative process involving himself, his family, and the club.

He made this announcement in an official statement following Manchester United’s declaration of their intent to part ways with him.

Greenwood also acknowledged the likelihood of public judgment based on social media portrayals.

It’s worth recalling that in the previous year, Greenwood faced legal proceedings and charges of sexual assault and coercive behavior in relation to his then-girlfriend (now his wife), Harriet Robson.

In his statement, he conveyed, “The determination I’ve made today has evolved through a joint effort involving Manchester United, my family, and me. I extend my gratitude to the club for their unwavering support ever since I joined at the age of seven. A part of me will always remain connected to United.”

“I’ve been raised with the understanding that any form of violence or abuse within a relationship is unequivocally wrong. The accusations leveled against me are entirely untrue, and I was vindicated of all charges in February.”

He further expressed immense appreciation for the backing provided by his family and loved ones, emphasizing his commitment to reciprocating the trust they’ve shown in him. “My aim is to not only enhance my skills as a footballer, but more importantly, to be a devoted father, a better individual, and to channel my abilities in a constructive manner both on and off the field.”

Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood on Monday expressed his intention to continue his football career away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood disclosed that the decision was part of a collaborative process between him, his family and United.

The forward announced this in a statement after Manchester United announced their intention to part ways with Greenwood.

Greenwood added that he understands that people will judge him based on what they have seen on social media.

Recall that Greenwood was arrested and arraigned in court last year on sexual assault and coercive behaviour charges against his girlfriend (now wife), Harriet Robson.

He said, “Today’s decision has been part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me.

“I thank the club for their support since I joined aged seven. There will always be a part of me which is United.

“I was brought up to know that violence or abuse in any relationship is wrong, I did not do the things I was accused of, and in February I was cleared of all charges.

“I am enormously grateful to my family and all my loved ones for their support, and it is now for me to repay the trust those around me have shown. I intend to be a better footballer, but most importantly a good father, a better person, and to use my talents in a positive way on and off the pitch.”
