- Fans accuse Davido of lacking originality and copying Wizkid’s phrase
Nigerian singer Davido has found himself amidst controversy and criticism after a recent interaction on social media where he used a famous line from fellow singer Wizkid.
The recent interaction on social media has left fans divided and questioning his originality. The Afrobeat artist, faced backlash following a response to a fan’s criticism on Twitter.
The incident began when Davido took to Twitter now X to express his need for an electric car charger to be shipped to Nigeria.
However, a netizen identified as SeniorManAndre seized the opportunity to criticize the musician, labeling him a fool and questioning why he couldn’t procure the charger from the same place he bought the electric car.
In a swift and unapologetic response, Davido retorted, “that one na your papa’s business,” igniting a firestorm of reactions from netizens who quickly drew comparisons to a similar statement made by fellow musician Wizkid in a separate incident.
Just a few weeks prior, Wizkid had engaged in a similar exchange on Twitter where he asserted that money does not buy love.
When a fan contested his statement, Wizkid replied with the now-infamous phrase, “that one na your papa’s business.”
The striking resemblance between the two artists’ responses did not escape the notice of keen-eyed social media users, who accused Davido of lacking originality and accused him of copying Wizkid’s retort.
Netizens Reactions…
JustMeTruman said; “Wizkid leads, Davido follows.”
Deborah wrote; “normally we all know that Wizkid is their mentor, they all want to be like our biggest bird.”
Olalikan said; “Wizkid is the biggest artist.”
Mayo OJ said; “Davido definitely has Wizkid’s picture in his wallets”.
