Update: Owners of the Abuja Chinese Supermarket facing allegations of discriminatory practices respond to FCCPC summons
Operatives of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), on Wednesday, April 24, interrogated the owners of a Chinese supermarket in Abuja over alleged discriminatory practices against Nigerians.
In an update shared on its X handle, FCCPC said its operatives also conducted an inspection of the facility, even as the investigation progressed. The agency said;
‘’Owners of the Abuja Chinese Supermarket facing allegations of discriminatory practices responded to our summons today to answer questions regarding the allegations. FCCPC operatives have conducted an inspection of the facility.”
The FCCPC had shut down the Chinese supermarket on Monday, April 22, over alleged discrimination against Nigerians. The Commission subsequently summoned the owners of the supermarket for allegedly discriminating against Nigerians by restricting their entry.
The supermarket which is located at the China General Chamber of Commerce along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Road in the Federal Capital Territory, was alleged to have been openly solely to attend to Chinese nationals. A Nigerian who attempted to make purchases from the storm called the store out online after he was bounced by the security guards.
