On Wednesday, the African Democratic Congress approved the party’s removal of its presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, and his running mate, Ahmed Rufai.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, the National Vice Chairman, North-East, other State Chairmen, and party executives are among the others who have been kicked out of the party.
At a Special National Convention held at the Ahmadu Bello University Conference Hotel in Zaria, Kaduna State, the expulsion was ratified.
In addition, the convention elected new national officers by affirmation, replacing the departed national officers.
As a result, Ralph Nwosu was re-elected as the ADC’s National Chairman, Alhaji Saidu was re-elected as Secretary, and Mrs. Kyauta was re-elected as Women Leader.
In his acceptance speech, he thanked the delegates for choosing him to lead the party for an additional four years and promised to do so in 2023.
Related News When the chairman explained why Kachikwu had been kicked out, he said that the presidential candidate had no manifestos since he was elected.
He stated, “The only thing he (Kachikwu) has done is to work against the party’s interests with the intention of selling the ticket to one of the “big” political parties with impunity.”
Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, Chairman of the Special National Convention and Director-General of the Campaign Global of the African Democratic Congress, made the following statement earlier in his welcome address:After the statutory tenure of the party’s national executives expired, I am pleased to welcome you all to this periodic National Convention of the African Democratic Congress.
“We call this convention special because it marks the beginning of a genuine movement for the people to reclaim their natural and legitimate right to reshape the future of Nigerian society,” the convention’s declaration reads.
“We will all summit the mountain.”In this context, I believe it is pertinent to emphasize that the formal purpose of the convention today is to disband the National Working Committee and appoint a new one; to adopt the amended constitution of the party; to appoint a statement of discipline to some party members; to ratify the principles and goals of the party; and to establish the guidelines for the party’s activities, including the procedure for the upcoming election cycle.
